Ace September 25, Language: If you are mcdefitt starting out with Alex jak Chase, I would advise reading the earlier novels first, starting with A Talent for War, Polaris and Seeker, though all the novels are excellent.

Seeker, by the way, won the Nebula. The plot meanders around, dodges down an interesting blind alley having fkrebird do with a deadly planet with sentinent computers running the place, and the conclusion is somewhat anti-climactic.

I think this was a solid entry, but it didn’t quite spark my imagination quite as much as the previous book in the series. One gets the impression McDevitt just couldn’t be bother to come up with a reasonable source. Not a stellar add on to his series.
Or possibly his background is so well thought out, that throw away lines, or subplots, or minor characters, have enough information behind them to make the reader want to see their story as much as the main plot of the book. Robin stepped right out of this universe, right in his bedroom closet. All the books in this series are great reads individually, but after reading the fifth one I did start to think they were feeling mcdwvitt bit samey, formulaic.
Doggett rated it really liked it. This book was enjoyably put together, and the mystery, while not quite as deep as anticipated, was still fulfilling.
